Thomas Folber is a South Australian artist and academic that works with both digital and non-digital media. Having primarily studied in photography and painting, his artistic practice has become a multidisciplinary one incorporating computational image production, audio-visual art, and digital printmaking.

​

​As a researcher and artist Folber has been exhibiting for more than ten years and has artworks held in Adelaide University's public collection. He has been nominated for the Hatched National Graduate Exhibition, the Helpmann Bendigo Adelaide Bank award, and was awarded the NAVA ignition prize in 2014. Creative outcomes from Folber’s research were also selected for the Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition in both 2015 and 2020. In 2023 he completed his Doctor of Philosophy through a program of artistic inquiry resulting in a body of creative works and an accompanying exegesis. Folber’s doctoral research highlights how glitch focused artistic practices can be understood as critical wanderings between media, and as acts of interpretive translation that facilitate encounters with black boxes of understanding. More recently he has become interested in the impact generative AI has on systems and processes within higher education and creative practices.
